Information for Outside Speakers:

Making your Air Reservations to SeaTac Airport:
If you choose the ‘Group Departure’ option, please observe the information above and schedule your flight accordingly. We recommend out-of-town participants who would like to leave with this group to arrive Seattle on Sept. 9 and spend the night in one of the following 2 hotels near UW campus: Travelodge or Silver Cloud Inn. A UW van will make pickup stops at these locations as needed. If you cannot stay in one of these hotels, please arrange your transportation to be at MolES loading Dock/C7 Parking  at 8 AM.

If you are not able to make the group departure on Sept 10, you may also choose to fly to Friday Harbor by Kenmore Air (~$170 one-way). Please contact us (uwcei@uw.edu) directly to book these flights so we can coordinate a shuttle from SeaTac to the Kenmore Air flights as well as pick up at Friday Harbor.

Other Travel Options:
If you do not choose the ‘Group Departure’ option, there are a number of ways to reach Friday Harbor from SeaTac Airport or Seattle: plane, seaplane, shuttle and rental/your own car.

If you are interested in flying from Seattle to Friday Harbor, you can choose between airplane or seaplane travel. Please check the website for Kenmore Air for schedules: https://www.kenmoreair.com

Shuttle Transportation from SeaTac Airport:
There is shuttle van service from the airport to Friday Harbor (including ferry passage) using Island Airporter. This service only operates once a day leaving the airport at noon. Another option is to use Airporter Shuttle which operates every 2 hours throughout the day but has a connection in Mt. Vernon.

Driving & Ferry:
Driving to Anacortes (ferry terminal for Friday Harbor) from Seattle takes approximately 2 hours. To check the current ferry schedule visit Washington State Ferries (select ‘Anacortes/San Juan Islands’).

If you are bringing your car to Friday Harbor, we strongly encourage you to make reservations for the ferry, or arrive at least 1 hour prior to departure.

Parking at Anacortes Ferry:
For walk-on passengers, there are pay parking lots at the ferry terminal where you can park your car and walk on the ferry. If the lower lots are full, there is additional parking up the hill (follow signs) but this is a 5-10 minute walk. Parking rates are available here (scroll down to ‘Parking’). “Walk on” tickets may be purchased in the waiting area. The ferry usually begins loading 15 minutes before departure. Fare information is available here.

Transportation to and from Friday Harbor Labs:
If you are traveling outside the group, we will do our best to transport you to and from Friday Harbor Labs once in Friday Harbor. Please send us (uwcei@uw.edu) your itinerary to arrange pickup/drop-off.

If you have any questions, please contact us (uwcei@uw.edu).
