Jessica Ray

Jessica Ray is the Robert O. and Irene V. Sylvester Family Endowed Assistant Professor in Water Resources in the College of Civil & Environmental Engineering. My group's research bridges environmental chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science to develop novel treatment technologies to remove or degrade contaminants in the urban water supply. We heavily rely on surface chemistry techniques to characterize the physicochemical properties of our materials to probe their structure-function relationship with respect to targeted contaminants. Rachel Pearson

Rachel Pearson is a doctoral student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Prior to her doctoral studies, Rachel received her B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Virginia and worked as a civil engineer for a land development firm. Her research centers on equitable and resilient water and renewable energy infrastructure systems. Rachel is passionate about understanding climate change’s impacts on vulnerable communities and finding infrastructure solutions to these complex challenges. Her research project uses HOMER software to integrate renewable energy systems into water treatment technology in rural Alaskan communities....

Miguel González

My work seeks to study the advantages of the anisotropic nature and flexibility of composites to enable the passive morphing capabilities that improve the overall energy efficiency, structural capacity, and dynamic stability of Marine-Hydrokinetic (MHK) turbine blades used for flow kinetic energy harvesting. With the goal of establishing a comprehensive mechanical characterization of the MHK blades, careful design and testing of the blades will be carried out in order to account for the inherent load-dependent deformations and to avoid potential material failures and hydro-elastic instabilities (resonance, parametric excitations, divergence, flutter, buffeting, etc). By designing, manufacturing, modeling, testing, and analyzing these blades, my research will...

Anne Goodchild

Dr. Anne Goodchild leads the University of Washington's academic and research efforts in the area of supply chain, logistics, and freight transportation. She is Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and serves as Founding Director of both the Supply Chain Transportation & Logistics online Master's degree program and the Supply Chain Transportation & Logistics Center, the latter which launched the Urban Freight Lab (UFL) in 2016 to bring together the public and private sectors to address the challenges of the urban freight system by engaging in innovative research.
