Eliane Nirere is a third-year doctoral student in the Interdisciplinary Energy Analytics for Society (IDEAS) lab, advised by Dr. June Lukuyu. Her current research focuses on integrating community-based participatory methods and interdisciplinary approaches into the early stages of demand estimation and business model development practices or renewable mini-grid technologies. She also explores ways to promote the productive use of electricity, stimulating rural demand, supporting viable business models, capturing local socio-cultural knowledge, and fostering meaningful community engagement. Her broader research interests lie in planning and implementing renewable-energy electrification technologies that are better aligned with local needs and more adaptable to different socio-cultural contexts in underserved communities. Eliane holds a Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, specializing in Energy Systems, from Carnegie Mellon University Africa.
