My research explores how artificial intelligence can help us design better semiconductor surfaces, because surface chemistry plays a critical role in determining how efficiently and reliably technologies such as solar cells and LEDs operate. As a model system, I study halide perovskite particles whose surfaces can be systematically modified with different molecules, allowing us to measure how those chemical changes affect light emission. I then combine these experiments with large language models and other AI tools to uncover relationships between molecular structure and material performance. Ultimately, we aim to build AI agents that can predict promising surface treatments before we make and test them, accelerating the discovery of better materials for solar energy, lighting, and emerging quantum technologies.
