My research centers on the application of generative models in the context of renewable energy systems. By developing generative models, we can account for uncertainty without explicitly modeling probability. Specifically, I’m now developing generative models to generate future scenarios of user load given available side information. Next, I will consider how to take advantage of generated user load scenarios to better plan the portions of renewable energy and conventional sources on the grid, or to better manage market pricing.

Besides, we can generate not only future user load scenarios but also solar scenarios and wind scenarios. Then I need to study how to evaluate the quality of generated solar and wind scenarios, whether the generated scenarios are practical, and which side information will be more helpful. Moreover, we can also generate future market policy scenarios to facilitate decision making, such as carbon emission caps policy.
