In the field of electrochemical energy storage, high-capacity electrode materials have the potential to raise the areal and gravimetric energy density of a battery, thus opening the possibility for industries to produce smaller, lighter devices powered by batteries. However, such materials have yet to be successfully implemented in devices due to parasitic side reactions occurring between the electrode and electrolyte. My research is focused on spectroscopically probing these reactions, contributing to more informed molecular design strategies for electrode and electrolyte components.
